National HEAR/DARE Information Day on Saturday January 11th

To support students who are applying to University through the HEAR or DARE route, a National Information Day for HEAR & DARE will be hosted in Devere Hall at UCC on Saturday, January 11th, from 10 am to 2 pm
No booking is required, simply show up and enjoy. 

Staff from UCC and MTU will be available to answer queries about HEAR and DARE applications.

Late Opening on Tuesday, Jan 7th

Dear Parent/Guardian, To ensure the health and safety of our students and staff in light of the current weather predictions, SCS will have a delayed opening tomorrow Tuesday, Jan 7th. School will begin at 11:00 AM, and school buses will operate two hours later than their normal schedule. Regards, SCS Management.

Over €3000 raised for Bantry Hospital Palliative Care Team! Dec 2024.

Skibbereen Community School’s recent Tractor Run was a great success. Over 50 tractors participated in the Tractor Run, in Memory of Past Pupil Ricky Barrett. Bantry Hospital’s Palliative Care Team are the beneficiaries of the funds raised from the Tractor Run. Thank you to all participants, and all involved in the organising of this annual event. Thank you to the local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle.

Following on from Sundays successful Tractor Run, on Tuesday the 5th year LCA students in SCS organised a “Christmas Festive Day”, where students & staff donned their Christmas jumpers, hats, and festive accessories. The staff were treated to some delicious mince pies, apple tarts and non-alcoholic fruit punch! The staff and students donated funds for Bantry Hospital Palliative Care Team, €784:00 was raised on Tuesday.

In total over €3,000:00 has been raised from the combined fundraising events. This a fantastic achievement by all involved, and a great opportunity to bring SCS students & staff community together in memory of Ricky Barrett. Thank you very much to all those involved in the organising of these events.

Agri-Workshop Prize Winners

Many thanks to Darren Lynch from Drinagh who visited the school to present prizes to our Leaving Cert students following the recent Agri-Workshop in the West Cork Hotel. 

Drinagh kindly sponsored prizes for the winning groups.

Festivity and Festivities in the L.R.C. 

It started with the annual pilgrimage to the Cork Opera House for the Panto and ends tomorrow with the annual student and family gathering - 'Jingle-Mingle'.

With Concert Rehearsals, Christmas Brunch, Christmas Dinner, Christmas Céilí, Candle Lighting, Cinema Trip and Kris Kringle, 🎅 it has been a busy two weeks for all our students. It’s nearly time to put out your stocking!

BT Young Scientist Competition

School Tractor Run, Dec 15th 2024

On Sunday, Dec 15th 2024 the School’s Farming Club organsied a Charity Tractor Run in memory of past pupil, Ricky Barrett. Ricky organised and launched the first School Tractor Run in 2022 in aid of Crumlin Hospital. Today’s event was is in his memory and in his honour with all proceeds going to The Palliative Care Team in Bantry Hospital. 59 Tractors took part in this year’s event. The route went from the school out to Tragumna, back through town and back up to the school. The local Gardaí, Civil Defence and Coast Guard Crews organised Safety and Traffic Management. The School Community would like to thank these volunteers for their services. We wish to also thank The Barrett family for their blessing and support, Mr. Peter Swanton, Teacher and his students in the Farming Club who planned out the day, organised spot prizes and sold raffle tickets. We wish to also thank our students, their families and our staff (past and present) for driving on the day, marshalling at the cross roads, putting out signs and donating to the fund. Thankyou so much to the staff who organised the refreshments afterwards. We wish to also thank the local businesses for their very kind donations of raffle prizes and we ask everyone to support the following: Drinagh, Fields, Thornhills, John O Driscoll Motor Factors, The Favourite Hairdressers, Aisling Daly Boutique, Seymours Jewellers, Cre Pottery, Kalbos, An Chístin Beag, The West Cork Hotel, Embellish Home Interiors, and Levis and Sweetnams.

First Years at the turning on of the Christmas Tree Lights, Dec 13th

Christmas has officially begun in SCS. All First Year Students attended our “turning on the lights ceremony” in the Canteen. The Principal, Mr. Anton O Mahony and the Induction coordinator, Ms. Sarah McCarthy and Year Head, Ms. Karen Sheane thanked them all profusely for their tour guiding at the recent “Open Night”. Each was presented with a certificate which will be part of their Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement.

TY Emergency Services Demonstration, Dec 12th

The School Community would like to sincerely thank our local Emergency Services; An Garda Siochána, The Ambulance Service and our local Fire Service for putting on a Car Crash Scene Simulation for the benefit of all our TY students. Many thanks also to Mr. Conor Uhl, TY coordinator and to Calum in 4D for offering to be the “driver”.
