Cara House Coffee Morning

Skibbereen Community School were absolutely thrilled to be asked to support the annual Cara House Coffee morning. We were also delighted to support the St. Vincent de Paul collection there too.

Lots of our students are pictured below and there is no doubt the smiles say it all. Our students have now forged strong bonds with people in Cara House. Our students and the older generation have lots in common as we all love meeting people and enjoy the opportunity to support different initiatives.

We have more exciting plans going forward and the countdown has already started for next year. As a school we will continue to support Cara House in whatever way we can in the future.

Jim, one of the residents, wrote a poem about Cara House and the joy we as a school bring to the place. We are really touched by this and a big thank you to Jim from all of us.

Thanks to Ms. Áine Minihane, Mr. Conor Uhl, Mr. Pat Joe Whooley, Ms. Michelle O’Brien, Ms. Liz Leonard and Ms. Orla O Sullivan for organising.

6th Year Agricultural Science Students Visit Macroom Buffalo Farm

6th year Agricultural Science students visited Macroom Buffalo Farm today. Macroom Buffalo has Ireland's first and largest herd of free roaming, grass fed Water Buffalo.

We got a fantastic tour of the farm, led by the passionate and informative guide, Dorothy O' Tuama. She shared insights into the history of water buffalo farming in Ireland and how in 2009, they took the plunge and imported 31 buffalo from Northern Italy and now have over 700!

Students enjoyed meeting the friendly calves and docile mothers as well as learning about animal husbandry, cheese making and sustainability.

The trip concluded with a tasting session featuring fresh mozzarella, ricotta, burrata, Cypriot grilling cheese and even some buffalo burgers. The rich, creamy flavours of the cheese were a testament to the farm's dedication to quality.

To top it all off, Mr. Shanahan put his culinary skills to the test and whipped up a delicious ricotta lemon curd cheesecake which was a hit with everyone!

Thanks for a fantastic day out.
