Food & Hospitality Artisan Products, Trip to Cork on Ice, Marina Market & Macroom Buffalo Farm

At our recent Open Evening, TY Food & Hospitality students presented the prototypes of their Artisan Food Products which they have been working on all term. Well done on some fantastic work thus far - some really exciting and innovative products on display. Products ranged from Bagels, Natural Chewing Gum and Banana Bread to name but a few.

To celebrate their hard work, the next day students headed to Cork where the first stop was Páirc Uí Chaoimh for ice skating and then on to Marina Market for lunch.

On route home students stopped off at Macroom Buffalo Mozarella Farm, where Dorothy O’Tuama gave a superb guided tour of the farm and tasting of the products produced on the farm. The highlight was getting up close with the baby buffalo and tasting the buffalo burgers.

A very enjoyable day out!

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the students and staff who contributed their time, talent, and energy to decorating our school for Open Night, creating stunning displays, and showcasing the incredible work that happens here every day. Your efforts have truly brought our school to life and demonstrated the vibrant spirit of our community.

A special thank you goes to Ms. Sarah McCarthy our event coordinator.

We were delighted to welcome prospective incoming first-year students and their parents to our school. It was wonderful to see so many engaged visitors exploring what we have to offer. We hope you found the experience insightful and inspiring and that you will consider joining our school family.

First year History trip to Heritage Centre

Over the last few weeks, all first year students have attended the Heritage Centre with their History teachers. These trips have been extremely informative as they received great talks from Terri about the impact of the Famine on Skibbereen and its surrounding area. There are great sources from the time period at the centre and it brought the experience to life for students.

Out thanks to Terri and everyone at the Heritage Centre for making this such a great experience . A big thanks to the History department for organising these trips.

Skibbereen Community School was again honoured to be involved in the planning of the day where we organised the face painting and sold tickets.

A wonderful day was had by all who attended. The Tragumna Threshing committee put a huge amount of effort into this day and everyone agreed it was a resounding success.

From the vast array of vintage tractors, cars, motorbikes, auctions, face painting, competitions, butter making and dog shows there was something for everyone.

International Men's Day 2024

The wellbeing committee wishes to highlight International Men’s Day 2024.

On November 19th, International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. We highlight positive role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being. Our theme for 2024 is “Positive Male Role Models”.

International Men’s Day encourages men to teach the boys in their lives the values, character and responsibilities of being a man. Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must become the change we seek.” It is only when we all, both men and women, lead by example that we will create a fair and safe society that allows everyone the opportunity to prosper.

Many thanks to Mr. Lynch, Ms. Hennigan & Ms. O’Brien for organising.

2nd Year Science Quiz

Second years took part in a keenly contested Science Quiz.

The biggest decision was on naming the team. It went from the Bright Sparks to the Elements to the Pink Fluffy Unicorns. Lots of discussion and fun was had on route to the final round.

In several classes the winners had to be settled with a tie break round.

Well done to everyone that took part.
