Last week saw Mr. Kelly's 1st years take on the role of solicitors in a model courtroom and compete in groups in a series of heated debates on the legacy of Christopher Columbus and his role in the slavery of Native Americans. These debates came about after they had conducted heavy research and compiled their evidence.
This exercise tied in with Learning Strand 1.2 of the Junior Certificate History curriculum whereby students are encouraged to consider controversial issues in history from more than one perspective and discuss historical roots of a controversial issue in the contemporary world.
After some hard-hitting points from both our Prosecution and Defence teams, as well as contributions from our Court Clerks and Jurors it was deemed only right that they got rewarded with ice lollies and chocolate!
We once again thank all students for the huge effort that they have put in over the last couple of weeks and we wish them well in their exams.
