All Members of the SCS Community - Thank You and Happy Christmas!

Nollaig-Shona-Duit.jpg

As the calendar year comes to an end we wish to thank all members of our school community for their support, understanding and commitment during what has been a challenging year.

Working together as a community of parents, students, staff and Board of Management we have managed to keep our school community safe to this point, while also continuing to ensure that our students get the best possible education in the circumstances.

The resilience and co-operation of our students, parents and staff has been exceptional. Your willingness to accept the many changes to school life, often at short notice is humbling and gives me great hope that we will succeed in overcoming these challenging times.

It fills me with pride to be associated with this school community and I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank each of you once again. I wish each and every one of you a safe, peaceful and enjoyable Christmas break.

I look forward to working with you all again in the New Year and a safe return to education for all in our community.

Nollaig faoi shѐan is faoi shaonas daoibh go lѐir,

Anton O Mahony

Principal,

Skibbereen Community School.

Jupiter and Saturn, two of the slowest planets to orbit the sun are to align tonight, Mon Dec21st.

An early Christmas gift from the Science Department!
We would like the School Community to be aware that Monday night after sunset the great conjunction of the celestial world will occur in our night skies. Jupiter and Saturn, two of the slowest planets to orbit the sun are to align tonight. Jupiter takes 12 years to orbit, as Saturn takes 29.5 years to orbit making their visible alignment very rear. The pictures give you the idea where to look out and enjoy this spectacle if the skies are clear.

2nd Year Home Economics

The gift of giving with 2nd Years

Christmas 2020 isn’t going to be the same as other years but that doesn’t mean we can’t show those who mean the most to us we care, even if it is at a distance.

2nd Year Home Economics students created “edible gifts” to share with loved ones that they may not be able to visit this Christmas.

What a lovely idea…. Well done 2nd years!

A Christmas Carol

Attached is a performance of a 1945 radio adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol'.

4th Year Food & Hospitality

That’s a wrap on Food & Hospitality Artisan Food Production for 2020!

4th year Food & Hospitality students would like to thank all their customers for their support over the past few weeks.

They have been very busy in full production fulfilling orders received via their company Instagram pages and via their stall, “The Pantry” at reception, so much so that many items are now completely sold out.

They were delighted to be able to create two bespoke hampers to gift to Skibbereen Community Hospital and Skibbereen Residential Care Centre.

Well done to all involved on some super products created under challenging circumstances.

Wishing all our customers a very Happy & Safe Christmas.

Day 8 of the 12 Days of Christmas

tap running.jpg

The Green Schools Committee and their teacher Ms. Una Mc Nulty are currently running a Water Conservation Campaign in the school to encourage everyone to be mindful of wasting water. They are asking everyone not to let the tap run when brushing your teeth as it wastes 6 litres of processed/cleaned water each time. They recently ran an environmental poster competition among First Years and some of the winners are pictured below.
