It was an incredibly difficult year and we wish to acknowledge their perseverance and resilence throughout. We wish them all every success and happiness in their future endeavours.
Many thanks to all students and staff for their support with last week’s Return to School Induction Programme based on the School’s Covid 19 Plan. All students return to school on Monday, Sept 7th at 8.50 am.
First and Second Year Students must enter the building through the Sports Hall entrances. First Years go straight to their base classrooms and Second Years should social distance in the Sports Hall.
Third Year Students should enter around the side of the sports hall and through the pitch side rear entrance of the canteen. They should social distance in the Canteen area.
TY Students should enter the building through the Practical Corridor Entrance at the rear of the school. They then make their way to the TY Social Area down the Science/ Art/ Home Ec Corridors.
Fifth Year Students should enter through the rear of the LRC section at the back of the school. They should then proceed up the stairs to their social area along the Business/ Staffroom Corridor.
Sixth Year Students should enter around the back of the building through the rear entrance of the Canteen. They should then proceed to their Social Area along the 6th Year Balcony and down along the Music/Irish/ English Corridor.
All students must wear a face mask on entry, sanitize their hands at the sanitizing stations and follow all instructions of the Door Supervisors.
Students are asked to bring a packed lunch and drinks each day until the Canteen re-opens on September 14th with a cashless, pre-order system. More details to follow. It is not possible for Senior Students to go down town for lunch at the moment due to infection controls.
We thank everyone for their support, patience and understanding as we endeavour to keep our school community safe.
Please click on the button below for the Wellbeing Powerpoint Presentation that was given to all students.
Please click on the button below for the Return to School Systems Protocols Powerpoint that was given to all students.
Please note that the canteen facilities will be operational again from Monday, 14th of September. Please remember to bring your own lunch until then whilst we transform the ordering, payment and fulfilment process to eliminate paper and cash contact points.
We will update you as soon as possible on the process for online ordering and payment for lunches.
Thank you for your patience.
Dear 2020 Leaving Certificate Student
With your long awaited and much discussed results due on Monday next, we in Skibbereen Community School would like to wish you all the very best in receiving these results and in the weeks and years ahead.
We understand that this is always an anxious time for leaving cert students. It is a great disappointment to all of us in the school community that we cannot share this momentous day with you in the manner that we normally could.
However, we wish to reassure you that the support services of the school will be available to you on the day of the results and in the days leading up to CAO offers and beyond.
One to one meetings with a member of the school’s guidance team will be available to each student if they would like to avail of this. Unfortunately, in the current pandemic all such consultations will have to be by appointment only. It is of the utmost importance that students do not visit the school without an appointment or complying with public health advice.
Such appointments and consultations should be arranged with your designated Guidance Counsellor through TEAMS or e-mail in the first instance.
Detailed information on the process is available on the Department of Education website at the following link and in the document prepared by the school’s Guidance Team accompanying this letter. https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/ad9de-leaving-certificate-2020-your-questions-answered-september-2020/
Once again, we sincerely wish you all the very best in the years ahead and look forward to hearing about your future achievements and accomplishments.
Anton O Mahony

To Incoming First Years 2020
We know you must have lots of questions about your new school. Just remember feelings of apprehension as well as excitement are very natural as you begin secondary school. So, to help you with this, we have collected some resources that you and your parents/guardians can look at over the next few days.
It is useful to know that for your first day on Tuesday 1st September, you will need a pen, copybook, a bottle of water and some lunch. You don't need to bring any of your textbooks as the day will be more about you becoming familiar with how Skibbereen Community School works!
We are really looking forward to meeting you in person soon and answering any queries you might have.
The school is in an advanced stage of preparations for students returning next week. Thank you to all staff and the community who assisted in this process. The school is fully compliant with Departmental Guidelines as evident from the attached video. Looking forward to welcoming all students and staff to our new working environment.

Dear Skibbereen Community School Green Schools Committee and Teacher Ms. Una McNulty,
Thank you for submitting an application to the Schools Drinking Water Refill Station Competition funded by Cork County Council’s Environmental Awareness Office.
Congratulations, your school has been selected as a winner.
We received a large number of applications which were assessed and scored on
· demonstration of need;
· potential to reduce single use plastics;
· previous environmental measures implemented by the school
· commitment to raise awareness about the initiative in the school and in the community.
The top 5 scoring schools in each of the Council’s 3 administrative divisions of North, South and West were selected as winners.
As a winning school, you will receive a FREE water refill station, including fitting, at a total prize value of approx. €1,300. A contactless machine, it is operated by a sensor which recognises when a bottle is placed underneath whilst also counting the number of refills. Please see attached image.
The Home Economics Department and School Community are delighted to share some exciting news at the end of what has been an unusual term for all of us.
Transition Year student, Tim O’Driscoll has launched his own food business which creates simple and easy to make baking mixes that produce delicious results. Tim has launched six products. Our favourite is the brown bread, delicious and so easy to make. Tim sells his products online, in local supermarkets Fields and Drinagh, as well as in other supermarkets across the county.
This is the good news story we all needed to hear and we would like to congratulate Tim on the launch of Fastnet Foods and wish him continued success. So get liking, sharing and baking everyone and get behind this local business.
