All Students Return to School on Monday, Sept 7th.

Many thanks to all students and staff for their support with last week’s Return to School Induction Programme based on the School’s Covid 19 Plan. All students return to school on Monday, Sept 7th at 8.50 am.

First and Second Year Students must enter the building through the Sports Hall entrances. First Years go straight to their base classrooms and Second Years should social distance in the Sports Hall.

Third Year Students should enter around the side of the sports hall and through the pitch side rear entrance of the canteen. They should social distance in the Canteen area.

TY Students should enter the building through the Practical Corridor Entrance at the rear of the school. They then make their way to the TY Social Area down the Science/ Art/ Home Ec Corridors.

Fifth Year Students should enter through the rear of the LRC section at the back of the school. They should then proceed up the stairs to their social area along the Business/ Staffroom Corridor.

Sixth Year Students should enter around the back of the building through the rear entrance of the Canteen. They should then proceed to their Social Area along the 6th Year Balcony and down along the Music/Irish/ English Corridor.

All students must wear a face mask on entry, sanitize their hands at the sanitizing stations and follow all instructions of the Door Supervisors.

Students are asked to bring a packed lunch and drinks each day until the Canteen re-opens on September 14th with a cashless, pre-order system. More details to follow. It is not possible for Senior Students to go down town for lunch at the moment due to infection controls.

We thank everyone for their support, patience and understanding as we endeavour to keep our school community safe.

Leaving Cert Results Day, September 7th.

results.jpg

Dear 2020 Leaving Certificate Student

With your long awaited and much discussed results due on Monday next, we in Skibbereen Community School would like to wish you all the very best in receiving these results and in the weeks and years ahead.

We understand that this is always an anxious time for leaving cert students. It is a great disappointment to all of us in the school community that we cannot share this momentous day with you in the manner that we normally could.

However, we wish to reassure you that the support services of the school will be available to you on the day of the results and in the days leading up to CAO offers and beyond.

One to one meetings with a member of the school’s guidance team will be available to each student if they would like to avail of this. Unfortunately, in the current pandemic all such consultations will have to be by appointment only. It is of the utmost importance that students do not visit the school without an appointment or complying with public health advice.

Such appointments and consultations should be arranged with your designated Guidance Counsellor through TEAMS or e-mail in the first instance.

Detailed information on the process is available on the Department of Education website at the following link and in the document prepared by the school’s Guidance Team accompanying this letter. https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/ad9de-leaving-certificate-2020-your-questions-answered-september-2020/

Once again, we sincerely wish you all the very best in the years ahead and look forward to hearing about your future achievements and accomplishments.

To Incoming First Years 2020

We know you must have lots of questions about your new school. Just remember feelings of apprehension as well as excitement are very natural as you begin secondary school.  So, to help you with this, we have collected some resources that you and your parents/guardians can look at over the next few days.

It is useful to know that for your first day on Tuesday 1st September, you will need a pen, copybook, a bottle of water and some lunch. You don't need to bring any of your textbooks as the day will be more about you becoming familiar with how Skibbereen Community School works!

We are really looking forward to meeting you in person soon and answering any queries you might have.

4th Year Student sets up his own Food Business - Fastnet Foods

TimODriscoll-0001.jpg

The Home Economics Department and School Community are delighted to share some exciting news at the end of what has been an unusual term for all of us.

Transition Year student, Tim O’Driscoll has launched his own food business which creates simple and easy to make baking mixes that produce delicious results. Tim has launched six products. Our favourite is the brown bread, delicious and so easy to make. Tim sells his products online, in local supermarkets Fields and Drinagh, as well as in other supermarkets across the county.

This is the good news story we all needed to hear and we would like to congratulate Tim on the launch of Fastnet Foods and wish him continued success.  So get liking, sharing and baking everyone and get behind this local business.

National Student Enterprise Programme Virtual Finals. May 27th.

Mini Company win 2020.jpg

There was a record number of 85 student enterprises competing in Ireland’s largest entrepreneurship programme for second level students.  The standard of projects was immense as reported by the host 'Rick O'Shea'.  While the students of SCS were very unlucky not to feature in the overall awards with their creative and imaginative 'Boat Bright' idea, the school is very proud of their achievements in reaching the National Finals having won the regional competition.  CBS Thurles won the overall award.  Well done to all involved particularly their teacher and mentor Ms. Mary O'Donovan, Business Dept.
