A large number of our TY students attended Cork County Council’s “Teen Talk” on Mental Health in the West Lodge, Bantry Yesterday. Guest speakers included Anna Geary, Derval O’Rourke as well as former MMA fighter, positive mental health advocate and suicide survivor Graham McCormack and author, entrepreneur and fitness guru, Pat Divilly. The event was officiated by the Mayor of West Cork, Mr. Patrick Gerard Murphy. Many thanks to Ms. Cliodhna O Sullivan, Career Guidance Department and Ms. Liz Leonard, SNA Department for accompanying the students.
All of us in Skibbereen Community School are very proud of our past pupil Enya Breen who has been called up to the Irish Rugby Team to play France this weekend. Best of luck Enya!!!
TY Student Saoi O Connor gave an excellent speech to her schoolmates today about “Friday’s for Future”, the worldwide student protest movement on Climate Change. This movement began in Sweden 29 weeks ago when Swedish student, Gretta Thunberg walked out of her school to protest at the lack of action by government’s worldwide to this world wide disaster. Saoi herself has protested outside City Hall in Cork City for the last 9 Friday’s. She and others like her have addressed the Dail and are in the media recently. They want the Irish Government to keep its emissions promises that it made at the Paris Accord.
The School Community is very proud of Saoi’s endeavours and support her in demanding that our government and others tackle Climate Destruction. The School will be part of next week’s mass walkout involving students from over 60 countries.

Many thanks to the TY Students who picked up and cataloged all the plastics washed up on Trag , Sandycove and on Tralagoch Beach today. They collected 3 Bags off Trag, 1 off Sandycove and 5 off Tralagoch. TY Art Students did an animation course today with Ms. Siobhán McGibbons of Creative Schools Ireland, a Department Initiative to make subjects more creative. Thanks to Ms. McGibbons and Ms. Olivia Hoskins, Art Teacher.

Well done to our three TY Mini Companies who did us proud at the Local Enterprise Regional Finals in the Celtic Ross Hotel today. Northical displayed their sailing braclets, 6th Scents displayed their candles and BGM displayed their crested sportswear. Congratulations to Brian Crowley of BGM who the judges voted, “Entrepreneur of the Future”. Many thanks to Ms. Ella Ryan and Mr. Diarmuid Hourihane, Business Teachers who prepared the teams.
