Congrats to our U14 Boys Football team and their coach Mr. Dara Crowley on beating De La Salle Macroom today in their first round of the county. Thanks to Mr. Chris O Brien, our First Aid Responder for accompanying them.
Congratulations to our Cadet Girls Basketball Team and their coach Ms. Marie O Mahony who beat St.Vincents Cork in a cracking cup match today. The girls were down by 9 points before coming back to win on a scoreline of 36 points to 34.
Hard luck to our Senior Football team and their coaches who were beaten by Colaiste Chorca Dhuibhne, Dingle in their first round of the Corn Ui Mhuiri, Munster Championship.
The school Sailing team took part in the first round of the Autumn League on Saturday 20th October. The SCS boats are those with the red stripes on the sails.
Congrats to the Senior Ladies Rugby Team in their Munster School’s 7x’s tournament today in C.I.T. They were beaten by Abbeyfeale Community College, Limerick in their first game. They beat Presentation Convent, Thurles in their second game and they drew with St.Anne’s of Tipp town in their third game. The standard at this level is very high with only two teams from Munster going through to the All-Ireland’s in Dublin. They are awaiting confirmation from Munster Branch to see if they got the second qualifying spot. Thanks to the coaches from Skibb R.F.C and to Ms. Suzanne Devine for accompanying them. Well done today girls. Ye have done your school and club proud!
Our School is being officially opened on Fri, Oct 26th by Minister Jim Daly. All Junior Students, Student representatives from Senior Cycle, Student Council, Parents Council, Trustees and locally invited guests will be in attendance. In order to facilitate these large crowds, the Board Of Management ask that all 4th, 5th and 6th Year Students stay at home that day and study for their Nov Exams. We thank all Parents/Guardians for their support and co-operation.
Last Friday, (Oct 19th) our TY and Fifth Year History students attended a screening of Black 47 in Bantry Cinema. Students enjoyed this film which provided an insight into life in Ireland during this extremely difficult time.

Skibbereen Community School Parents' Association will hold an AGM at 7pm tomorrow Tuesday, 23rd of October 2018 in the school. All parents are invited to attend.

They were beaten on a scoreline of 4-11 to 2-5. Thanks to Mr.MCarthy for all his work and to Mr. Chris O Brien our First Aid Responder for accompanying the team. Congrats to the Senior Football team and their coaches, Mr. Colman O Driscoll and Mr. Maurice Moore on the first round victory in the Simcox Cup (County Championship for Second Level Schools). They defeated De La Salle Macroom in Ballineen on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-11. They play Dingle next week in the first round of the Corn Ni Mhuiri (Munster Championship) next week.
Transition Year students attended a Mental Health Seminar in The Silver Springs, Cork today. Speakers included Liam Doocey from YHS, Philip McMahon GAA inspirational speaker Ballymun and members of the Menta Health Service - Jigsaw team. There were also performances by teenagers involved in rap projects with Music Generation Cork City, The Kabin Studio, Youth Work Ireland Cork & "Mayfield Youth Initiative (Foróige)".
A great day was had by all. A big thank you to accompanying teachers Ms R. O Brien, Ms C. O’Sullivan and Ms D. Hennigan.

“Turn Out the Lights”:
Today SCS showed their support for individuals with Irlen Syndrome by turning out the fluorescent lights at school for one minute at 10am. This was a national initiative whereby schools and work organisations across the country took part.
Irlen Syndrome (also referred to at times as Meares-Irlen Syndrome, Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome and Visual Stress) is a problem with the brain’s ability to process visual information. This largely unknown and undiagnosed disorder affects approximately 15% of the general population, 50% of individuals with reading and learning difficulties, 30% of individuals with ADHD and autism, and a significant portion of individuals with brain injury, chronic headaches, and migraines.
