SCHOOL MUSICAL

Rapunzel

This year's TY production is a musical re-telling of the fairytale 'Rapunzel'.

The Art, Music and English departments have come together once again to mount a fabulous show in which all the theatrical skills: sets, costumes, music, acting and backstage management have been taken on by the TY students themselves under the guidance of the TY staff.

The show has many popular toe-tapping songs, beautifully sung by the talented cast and its upbeat, comedic script is a sure-fire audience pleaser.

The whole creative process has been great fun for the students and taught them new skills, increased their confidence and enabled them to make new friends along the way.

We hope you will come along and support the students and have yourselves a great night out.

Junior 'A' Basketball

The junior girls basketball team travelled to Portlaoise to play in the All Ireland Junior ‘A’ play offs last Friday, 20th April.

Our first game was against Pres Kilkenny where the girls got off to a great start winning 36-23.

Our second match was against the hosting team Scoil Chríost Rí Portlaoise who had great support from the sideline. Our girls played very well but unfortunately we missed a lot of scoring chances and lost out 38-23.

We were straight into our third and final game against Loretto Foxrock who sat at top of the table going into the game. We knew we would have our work cut out for us. The girls had an outstanding performance against a very strong Foxrock team, showing the heart and determination we have seen from them all year. Unfortunately we lost 34-30, but the girls could walk off holding their heads high after leaving everything on the court.

It has been a fantastic year for this bunch of girls. They have done us proud. They will take everything they have learned from this fantastic opportunity of playing at the highest level of basketball in Cork/ Ireland and put it into practice to come back fighting next year. Watch this space!

Coding like a Girl Global Programme, March 19th-March 23rd.

Fifteen TY Students took part in Vodafone's Global Coding Programme for Girls which took place in the Ludgate Centre last week.

The workshops took place over the course of one week and the girls were taught by Vodafone employees. The hope was that the project would give female students a good enough foundational knowledge of development programmes and computer languages so that they can build a website upon completion.

Many thanks to the team in the Ludgate Centre for the invite. The Girls really appreciated this incredible opportunity.
