Due to adverse weather conditions, the 6th year trip to UL tomorrow Friday has been cancelled.
Thanks to the generosity of the students in Skibbereen Community School, a collection of various clothes, school materials and hygiene products were sent to Mary's Meals and will be distributed to children in need. There was also a donation of money which has been received by Mary's Meals and this sum of money will go towards feeding hungry children in developing countries.
A huge thank you for all the generous donations and a special word of thanks to all the pupils and staff of Skibbereen Community School who gave of their time and energy to make this happen.

The Senior Boys Football Team are preparing for their first round game of the Schools and Colleges Munster Championship. They play Tralee CBS on Wednesday. The School Community wish them the best of luck.
The School Community were delighted to give the St. Fachtnas Leaving Cert class of 1967 a tour of the school building last Friday. The tour was part of their 50th Reunion celebrations.

A huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped out with today’s cake sale which was a fund raiser in aid of the Air Ambulance Service. Thanks to the First Year Parents who donated baking, the Home Ec department for their baking and coordinating and to Eoin Hourihane, 6th Year who was the chief organiser.
A win, loss and draw today for our Senior Rugby Team in the Munster Rugby Schols Blitz in Ballincollig Rugby Grounds yesterday. A huge team performance in defeating Carrigaline before losing to Presentation Thurles and drawing with Rockwell. Well done to the entire panel and their coaches, Ms. Kathleen Martin and Ms. Eimear Hogan.
Well done to the Junior team on their excellent performance today narrowly losing to Rockwell College. They had a fine win over Bantry before losing to Bandon.
Many thanks to the Engineering Department of C.I.T and the Guidance Department of S.C.S for organising last night’s Engineering exhibition in the School. Mr. Michael Loftus, Head of Faculty chaired the evening’s events and introduced staff and students who spoke about their experiences in the various departments such as Chemical Engineering and Marine Engineering.

Congrats to the Senior Boys Football Panel and their coaches Mr. Maurice Moore and Mr. Colman O Driscoll on drawing with Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig in the first round of the Simcox Cup (Schools and Colleges County Championship) last Friday. The team were down 4 points with ten minutes to go but bravely fought back to draw on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-15.
Congrats to the Senior Ladies Football Panel and their coaches Mr. Patrick Hayes and Mr. Tony Harrington on beating Scoil Phobail Bheanntrai yesterday on a scoreline of 4-15 to 2-9 in the first round of the Championship.

Congrats to the U19 Senior Girls Basketball Team and their coach, Ms.Mags Breen on winning their first league game against St.Angelas, Cork City. The final score was 46 to 43 points. Pictured above are some of the panel.
The School started its “Drop everything and read” iniatiative on Monday. All staff and students took 20minutes out to read a chapter or an article. Thanks to the English Department for organising.
SUPERVISED STUDY 2017/18
· Skibbereen Community School will be offering supervised study to Leaving and Junior Certificate students.
· The duration of this study will be from 6pm to 9pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
· It will run in blocks of five weeks starting on Tuesday, 10th October.
· The running of this after school program is limited to a specific intake so places will be allocated on a first come basis.
· The cost is €40 (€4 per session). This money is to cover the cost of a supervisor and access to the school. This must be paid in full prior to the start of each block. The school will provide light refreshments each evening.
· Students will be given the opportunity to sign up to this study every five weeks. Once signed up, each student must attend all sessions (10) for which they have signed up to.
· Normal school rules apply during these sessions. Application form on Home Page of website. Only 30 places!
