Last Friday, September 18th, six of our 5th Year students had the privilege of travelling to Lourdes on pilgrimage with th Cork & Ross discese. For six days, Oisín, Muireann, Shane, Muireann, Fionán and Annie gave their time and energy to the VIP's (the assisted pilgrims) offering kindness, support, and companionship. They also played an active role in the many liturgies and processions, fully embracing the spiritual and communal life of Lourdes. They made memories to last them a lifetime.
This unique experience was only made possible by the generosity of our school and parish communities who helped fundraise to get them there. We thank you all so much for your support.
This experience allowed them not only to deepen their own faith and understanding but also to witness firsthand the power of compassion, service, and empathy. They embraced every part of the pilgrimage and it was a pleasure to witness them in action throughout our time there.
As a school community, we are extremely proud of these students and the way they represented themselves, their families and our wider community. Their commitment, maturity, and willingness to serve others is an inspiration to us all. It was no surprise that many other pilgrims stopped us throughout the week to compliment the students on their hard work and efforts, praise that was most well deserved!
We thank the organisers who made the experience a very special one for our students. In particular, Bishop Fintan, Fr.Marius, Ms.Sheila Kelleher, Fr.Ben and Ms.Lorraine Buckley who guided and supported the students throughout their time in Lourdes. We also thank Ms. Laura Corkery and Ms. Orla O Sullivan, RE Dept. SCS for organising and travelling with our students.
