Sam Kingston – Intermediate Schools Javelin

Sam started his competition at the South Munster Championships, where he won the javelin event. This qualified him for the Munster Championships, where he went on to win the Munster title.

As Munster champion, Sam then qualified to represent Munster at the Tailteann Games. He performed extremely well at this competition, finishing 2nd, which resulted in him being selected to represent Ireland at the SIABs (Schools International Athletics Board).

The SIABs is an international schools athletics competition, bringing together athletes representing Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. Sam competed against some of the best young athletes from across the four nations and finished an excellent 4th place, missing out on a medal by just a few centimetres.

This is an exceptional achievement, particularly as Sam was the youngest athlete competing in the event. Even more encouragingly, he is eligible to compete at this grade again next year.

Sam’s success this year has also extended beyond schools athletics. He has remained unbeaten in club competition throughout the year and is the All-Ireland U17 Javelin Champion.

Overall, Sam has had an outstanding season, progressing from winning at South Munster level, to becoming Munster champion, representing Munster at the Tailteanns, and ultimately representing Ireland on the international stage at the SIABs. Alongside this, becoming All-Ireland U17 champion and remaining unbeaten in club competition is a fantastic achievement.

We are incredibly proud of Sam’s hard work, dedication and continued improvement, and we look forward to seeing what he can accomplish next year.
